An Open Letter To My Fellow Women

An Open Letter To My Fellow Women

Dear Women of 2020,

Today is the day we honor our sisterhood. A sisterhood filled with powerful women and their stories of past and present. A sisterhood filled with generations of pain done on to us from others and at the hand of our own kind. A sisterhood looking to generate change in the future to create a stronger bond of support.

Women have been pitted against one another for centuries. Whether it be for the attention of men, careers, looks, or even family life, women are no strangers to the fight. Moving forward, we have turned our fight from one another to the betterment of our own and to nurture the quality of our society.

Our sisterhood has endured changes throughout the years. We have fought against the changes and struggled to embrace them, but as we continue to grow in size and power, we learn to embrace each other. The pain we have felt throughout our sisterhood is one that needs reparation and time. To do so, we need consistent support from within.

As part of this change, I ask for forgiveness in my part as I continue to learn from my past. And I look to make the following intentions towards continued growth and inclusion. So I present to all women my vows to you:

 1.         I vow to try and not compare myself to your journey. Your choices are not my choice and I honor your path and mine. I want to celebrate our differences and embrace what we can learn from one another.

2.         I vow to continue to learn from your culture and your history. I will to not allow history to repeat itself. I wish to get to know each of us more and learn from our ancestors’ mistakes.

3.         I vow to breed good energy and vibes. I will pass along the harmonious language of feedback and growth, rather than criticisms filled with disdain and jealousy.

4.         I vow to not compete or drag down other women in competition for another man’s or potential partner’s attention or affection. I will honor our strengths and assure that we utilize those strengths to raise each other up.

5.         I vow to recognize my privilege and status in our world and provide a space for other marginalized women to be present with me.

6.         I vow to recognize women in all areas of work and career, that our gender representation does not dictate what field of work women “work best in”. But instead that women are valuable in every workplace.

7.         I vow to continue to spread this kindness in all my relationships with other females and male allies. I recognize our power in numbers and support and look to foster those connections.

Happy International Women’s Day ladies! I look to you for strength, guidance and acceptance. My hope is that we continue to spread this belief and appreciate the lives of all women globally to achieve further balance.

 xxJess
